Liverpool Teaches Me play poker

I’ve been a Liverpool fan for years, and honestly — this club taught me more about poker mentality than any strategy.

Here’s why:

🔴 1. “Never Give Up” — The Liverpool DNA

You can be down to 5 BB, lose a brutal cooler, or get destroyed by variance — but like Liverpool in Istanbul 2005, the mindset is simple: It’s never over until it’s over.

🔴 2. Klopp’s Mentality Monsters = Poker Mindset

Jurgen Klopp built a team with insane mentality:

discipline

pressure

resilience

smart aggression

Isn’t that EXACTLY what a winning poker player needs?

🔴 3. Variance = Football Drama

Sometimes you dominate the whole match and still concede in the 90th minute.
Sometimes you play perfectly in poker and still lose to a two-outer.

Both games teach the same lesson: Accept the chaos, focus on performance, not the result.

🔴 4. Table Selection = Choosing Battles Like a Coach

A coach doesn’t put his weakest defender against the fastest winger in the world.
Same in poker: Choose your tables wisely.

🔴 5. Emotional control

Even Liverpool can tilt ⛈️
But When you have self-understanding, you don't fall into despair after a defeat.
you remain cool-headed and continue to fight and play your regular game without losing faith in yourself🌤️

If you’re a Liverpool fan, you already understand half of poker psychology )
"FALL DOWN SEVEN TIME GET UP EIGHT"

YNWA — at the tables too.

I love this analogy! As a Bayern fan, I can definitely appreciate the mindset you are talking about. While Liverpools comeback in Istanbul is legendary, Bayern has had its fair share of incredible comebacks too, like their 2020 Champions League run. Its all about that mentality -never giving up-, no matter how tough the situation looks. That is a huge part of poker too, especially when you are down and out but keep grinding.

The emotional control part is spot on. Whether its Bayern after a tough loss or a poker player after a brutal beat, staying level headed and not letting frustration cloud your judgment is key. And I love the table selection comparison too, knowing when to pick your battles is just as important in poker as it is in football.

"Fall down seven times, get up eight" applies to both games, for sure. Great post! Btw how you like Florian Wirtz so far? I have this feeling that Mohamed Salah is not likeing Wirtz ....

Thanks for your kind words, my brother.

Wirtz is a top class player. The expectations from him are high, but it was impossible to meet these expectations right here and now, and this is putting pressure on him. It is possible that Salah, as the attacking leader and the most individually awarded player, looks at him as a competitor, and his ego has not yet fully accepted Wirtz. But Salah is a very kind person, and they will eventually come to an understanding. Wirtz also needs time to adapt psychologically and show his strength in all its glory.

Bayern are destroying everyone this season. This is an incredibly strong team. Kane, Olis, and Diaz are an absolutely horrifying trio. And Diaz's goal was phenomenal. I've probably seen it a thousand times already.
What he did and how he did it is beyond words 🤤
Yes, I remember 2020. It was a very difficult time for all of us — the pandemic brought chaos and many deaths.

This was Lewandowski's year. He scored 54 goals and made 10 assists in 47 games 🤩 he won everything and he absolutely deserved the Ballon d'Or. But the guys from france Football didn't give it to him that year, even though he deserved it.
What I remember the most was the 8-2 match against Barcelona 👏👏👏 — they completely defeated them.
