Well, it's that time of year again. The greatest sporting event in the world is nearly upon us. I'm fairly excited, though much less so than in years past.
Do you folks like to make bets on college basketball? I'll probably check the odds and put a few dollars down here and there for fun.
I think Florida has the best chance of winning it all. It seems like they are part of a smallish group that has a really good chance. Arizona is tough. Duke could do something. UCONN has a chance. I guess it would be prudent to throw Michigan into this group, but I feel like they are a very small notch below those others. Then there's a secondary level of teams who have a chance...maybe another 10-15 teams. St John is below this group, and has been embarrassed recently, but they could be a sleeper depending on matchups.
There are some other teams I think may be overlooked who could make some noise, but don't have much of a chance to win the title. A final four run wouldn't be out of the question for these dark horses. For example, St Louis and Santa Clara could pull a couple of upsets. Maybe South Florida or New Mexico. Matchups, matchups, matchups.
Let's hope officiating isn't deciding as many games in the Big Dance as they have in the regular season this year.
I'll be pulling for the Kentucky Wildcats myself. They could most definitely make some noise, but they could lose in round 1. They certainly won't get a high seed, unless they magically run to the SEC tourney title.
Who are you folks rooting for? Who are your favorites? Dark horses? It would be fun to do a bracket in here but I don't think there would be much interest. Anyway, give me all your college basketball takes. I don't know much about what's going on in the women's side of things this year, but I wouldn't mind hearing opinions about that either.
