The Oaklawn Park Racetrack announced on Friday the 20th that the Arkansas Derby (G1), one of the most important races on the route to the Kentucky Derby (G1), will be held on May 2 - the closing day of its season - instead of the Saturday, April 11. This decision represents a new change in the preparatory competitions for the Carrera de las Rosas, which, as is known, will take place on Saturday, September 5. The financial issue is part of this decision, since the Oaklawn Park casino is closed to the public, and races continue to be held behind closed doors. Without the additional income, Oaklawn Park could guarantee the million dollars originally planned for the Arkansas Derby (G1), but after a series of consultations it was concluded to continue the season - same behind closed doors - but with a reduction in the prize pot. Thus, the Arkansas Derby (G1) will offer $ 750,000 to distribute. In the same way, the Fantasy Stakes (G3), preparatory for the Kentucky Oaks (G1), has been moved on its date and will be played on Friday 1st. May, with a reduction of his prize to be distributed to $ 400,000.
