If poker is categorized as a sport it would be played on Olympic game.I dont think its a sport.Sport require physical endurance not just mental endurances.

Lots of sports aren't in the Olympics. Is pool a sport? Bowling? Fishing? all these require little to no physical endurance.. I get more pain in my lower back playing poker then I do working out lol

Good point! I get a lot of pain in the back from playing long sessions too. I guess some people would just consider them games and not sports.

In 2012, I played poker for over 15 hours straight when I was on the good run, kept playing until I broke two tables. I did this just to try copying Phil Laak's while also, trying to maximize my good run revenue. Tell me a single sport where you can play for 15 hours straight, straight, non-stop. The hell, tell me if you can do what Phil Laak did, which was 115 hours, playing authentic sports instead of poker. Even if you were to use Phil Laak's conditions of being able to bank 5 minutes for every 1 hour of active play, you won't be able to do it for 15 hours or 115 hours if playing real sports. THAT is what sets the difference between a real sport and a game.

I love how some of people here try so hard to justify poker as a sport since they have very little experience of what real sport is.

Bboying(breakdancing), Parkour, Tricking, require far more physical training than poker at its intense stage ever will, but practitioners of those arts/training couldn't care less about their hobby not being a sport. Bboys try to keep it as an art, rather than a sport. Even poppers and lockers, like to consider their movement an art or a dance but yet, require far more intense physical training than poker.

But if you need to justify poker as a sport to make yourself feel that you're being athletic and sporty for playing poker, feel free to do so.

I clean my house and sometimes it hurts my back. So therefore, cleaning a house must be a sport too that is not in the Olympics.

I say poker is a sport because it does involve running and catching. I also happen to say that miniature golf is a sport, as is golf. There are simply levels of sport, divided into categories.

Wow, I made this over 7 months ago and have only just read through the comments now. Yeah I guess that its not physical at all, but people's arguments that you can't play any sport while smoking/drinking I think is just rubbish. You can play pool/chess/other well known sports doing that, but you just don't play as well which is just like poker.
Poker isn't considered a sport to the world, but I am pretty sure as hell it is definitely a mental sport if nothing else

I think if it's on ESPN it becomes an automatic sport.. soooo SpellingB is a sport and everything else =)

maybe we should create a new name instead of sport call in a trops a trops will be games like chess, pool , poker and stuff like that =)
