My pick this year is the Colts because of their experience of having won it before and the fact that the Saint's defense looked shaky in their last game.

The Saints first half of the season was amazing. Their 2nd half was average at best. Minnesota absolutely dominated every aspect of that game except for the score. If it wasn't for Brett Favre's ego taking over at the end of regulation and making that boneheaded play, Minnesota would be in the Super Bowl.

That being said, I don't think it will be a blowout but it's Indy's game to lose.

The Saints have had the #1 offense in the league for 3 of the last 4 seasons (2007 being the year they weren't #1 -- they were #4). Look up Reggie Bush, Pierre Thomas, and Mike Bell's yards per carry stats from this year and compare them to the top running backs (or teams, for that matter) in the league. Reggie has the same avg as Chris Johnson and Pierre Thomas is not far behind their average. As for the receivers, Meachem and Colston have 9 TD's each (Fitz and Moss had 13 each). Puleeeeeeez.

As for the Saints' defense, let me throw a couple numbers your way: 46 & 8. 46 total turnovers this season (including the post season) with 29 interceptions and 17 fumble recoveries -- the 8 is how many times they've returned those turnovers for touchdowns. Puleeeeeez.

I'll tack on a bit to what KMC is saying.

For anyone saying anything negative about the Saints Defense, a few points:

1. The Secondary's been banged up for quite a bit of the regular season. Jabari Greer (starting CB) was out for 7 games, Tracy Porter (other starting CB) was out for 4.

2. Darren Sharper tied the league in most interceptions with 9, 3 of them went to the end zone.

3. The Defense had 26 interceptions in the regular season (3 more in the postseason), which was third in the league after the Packers with 30 and the Bills with 28. 5 of those 26 went for touchdowns, the most in the league. For comparison, the Colts had 16 INTs, 2 of them went to the endzone.


As for the offense, here's a number from the regular season:

Points scored:

Saints: 510 31.9 points per game
Colts: 416 26 points per game

Saints ranked number 1, Colts were number 7.

Then again, the only numbers that matter at the end of the game are the ones on the scoreboard.

B. Limped for an extra few yards (he was moving fine at the time, btw.)

In addition, I did see the Saints almost lose to the Rams, while the Colts had no such travesties. Sitting out your starters when nothing matters against a good team like the Jets is not quite the same.

FWIW, I feel awful for Favre. No one can match his toughness. Hope he's back next year. Looking at him this year, if he wasn't hurt, I'd say he's got more than 1 good year left in him. Great genes, eh?

I didn't say his ego played no part in it. It obviously did. Although for the record, your C option isn't really an option because before the play Longwell was looking at a 50yd+ field goal as it was, so losing more yardage wasn't an option (though I suppose having Longwell attempt a 60 yarder would have been a better option than throwing a pick. lol).

The stats on NFL.com (total defense, rushing, and passing) just go off of yardage. They don't factor in turnovers or anything else, just yards per game. If you want to look at what realistically matters, points given up per game, the Saints are 20th in that, but you have to factor in that teams #6 through the Saints at #20 gave up between 18 and 21 points per game, it's really not too different.

As for the "travesties"...this is the NFL, not college. No team is a joke.

And I think Favre will play 1 more year. How well he'll do will be a different story. AP started becoming a problem rather than a solution at the end of the season with his fumbles. We'll see what happens.

I'm not saying that 3 interceptions as his last plays for his 3 teams will be his legacy...I was just pointing out an interesting fact. His legacy in my book will be the child-like spirit with which he played the game. That's the biggest thing that makes me a fan of him.

And as for Peterson, he had 2 fumbles in the NFC Championship. The Saints just didn't pick either of them up.

I think Colts win, Saints cover. Want it to be a high scoring game, this is the matchup for that. PManning's big game experience is a huge factor, it's ultra valuable. Maybe this is just the first of a few Super Bowls for Drew Brees, he's a winner.

Saints will win. The Vikings should have been running the ball and every1 knows that. Didn't mean they would have hit the FG but it woulda given them a chance. The Colts play an easy schedule every stinkin year and it makes the hard ball games winnable because they have less fatigue. Dwight Freeney will most likely not play and if Indy can't put pressure on Brees......Well you know. Anyway, Brett Favre and the Manning wimps are from the NO area and I just don't see them really wanting to ruin the Saints' season of dreams any more than the Cowboys wanted to advance and play them. Besides, the Mannings will still have their commercials no matter what happens.
