I feel like anything that can be turned into a skill based competition should qualify as a sport.

All great points, but I believe a Sport should involve three elements: Exertion(Brawn or Brain), Skill(Accuracy or Strength) and Competition(Opponent/s).
Once these criterion are met then experience would be the factor that determines rating, not luck, at least not generally.

And BTW you try facing a West Indian or Indian bowler sending a ball down a pitch at 90-100 mph and you having fractions of a second to dispatch it or get the hell out of the way(Bouncer) and then evaluate if it a sport or not(That takes Immense Skill Buddy)!

Skill alone, would therefore be only a game... such as Poker...
The following is my list of Sports that should not be classified as a Sport.
1. Darts.
