It was the first hand in a freeroll satellite with the following configuration:
Starting stack: 1000
Starting blinds: 40/80 (8)
Blinds increase every 3 minutes
Rebuy: 5000 chips for $0.11, available only when the stack is 1000 chips or less
Add-on: 50000 chips for $0.11, available once at the end of the rebuy period
Prize pool: 10 seats guaranteed for a $5.5 buy-in satellite

I got dealt Ac 3c.
There were two folds, one limp, one fold and another limp before the betting came to me. I shoved as A3s is a very clear open shove at button according to the charts.
Then someone threw stuff at me, both the blinds and one of the limpers called my shove, resulting in a 4-way all-in.

I showed Ac 3c, SB showed Kd Td, BB showed Kc Th, the limper showed Qc Tc.
The board ended up 4h 7d 4d Js 3d, and I lost despite being a favourite as SB completed a flush.

Was following charts correct in this kind of freeroll satellite by trying to double up at the first hand, or should I late-reg it instead?

I think it's fine. In these sats it's worthwhile to gamble and rebuy for more chips than starting with 1000 and drooling over them.

Also, don't dwell on the runout. That's not even that bad. Compare it to going all in as AK vs. AK and watching the villain catch a running flush. It's all the same in the end. You flipped and lost.

The charts are for open shoving with no action in front of you. With two limpers in a freeroll, your fold equity goes way down, and it could be reasonable to pass of a hand like A3s. Here you were actually kind of lucky to have the best hand, but it would not be uncommon to see someone limp in with A8 or AT and then call it off, if which case your A3s is dominated and in pretty poor shape.

That being said this is a really silly format, where you will never get far without buying some chips. So it does not even really matter, what you do with your free chips, that are essentially worthless. But in a normal MTT, I could sometimes find a fold in a spot like this and look for a spot with fold equity instead. Or maybe even consider to limp behind and see a flop, although I would ideally want a deeper stack to do that.

Lets take poker out of this for a second.

It seems like you're more bothered that people threw stuff at you. If you react to this emotionally, turn it off, just do it.

You have to learn to not care what other people think at the table, they no nothing, in the end, if you can justtify your decision then thats all tnat matters.

As @fundiver199 said, in these formats you have to expect to re buy multiple times, and get to the add on, as this is the only decent chunk of chips available and the only way to progress.

Also especially in this format, these players got in for free and are just hoping to get lucky. You have almost zero fold equity in any hand until players start having chips, so there's no point shoving and expecting good outcomes

The whole point of shoving is to rebuy and get 5000 chips, for real

Very good point, you just whack it in with anything and get you're re buy, if you triple up or more, great you don't re buy for anothr 5 minutes :ROFLMAO:

double up or late reg- sounds as if you were not going to pay for chips--if that is so then just flat in this spot and realize your equity 5 way is also an option
Late reg suggests you will have even less than 12bb while a bunch of other players have all stacked up not a great thing to do in this type of satty. If you can rebuy- just fold and rebuy and have 6k to play with, in the next hand
