Satellite tournament, 9 at the table. The ante was 0.12 BB. After paying the ante, I held 15.17 BB and the villain held 15.1 BB. We were still a few positions outside the bubble and it was far away from bursting. I was the BB and the villain was UTG+1, who opened 2BB. I called with Kh5s.

The flop went Ah Jh 7h, both checked. Therefore I thought that the villain wouldn't have a made flush or any strong hands like triple or two pairs.
The turn was Qd. My hand hadn't improved. However, I had both a top flush draw and a top straight draw, so I bet 2.67 BB on 5.34 BB. He called.
The river ended up Ac. It didn't hit. I checked. He bet 3.2 BB on 10.68 BB. If the villain had any of an A, Q or J (which was nearly certain given that he opened UTG+1), I would lose immediately. I folded.

Which step did I do wrong? Should I not bet on the turn with only a spectulative hand and out of position?

I had only 10.5 BB left and lost the tournament in the next hand when a limper called my A6s shove at SB and showed ATo. (If everyone folded to me, A6s was a very clear shove at SB with 10BB 12.5% ante, but there were 2 limpers ahead of me and I had no idea how I should adjust to the range.)

Depending on how far from the bubble, this was, and the other stack sizes, it could be a consideration to not defend a junky hand like K5o. Especially against an early position raise its a type of hand, that often brings us into trouble, when we flop top pair bad kicker, and its not the best hand. So maybe it is better to simply let it go and still have 14BB for the next hand.

Flop
Checking to the preflop raiser is fine.

Turn
Seems fine to start a bluff with a 12 out draw, when he check back flop.

River
Its not super great, that the board has paired, but you could still go for the hell-Mary bluff and jam for around a pot sized bet. He is probably not folding trips or better, but he is likely folding anything worse than trips, and you block the flush as well as the straight. The alternative is to check-fold, like you did.

#1 rule of satty play ---stack protection---which means nitty ranges by us and everyone else which means we over fold which means K5o muck preflop. Why? we hit a Kxx flop yay-- player wants to play for stacks wtf do we do? same flop V bets 50% pot are we calling them down? How about 25% flop 75% turn are we calling them down? There are just soo many poor outcomes when we call and soo few good ones and rule #1 is rule #1 for a very good reason-- we do not want to put 40% of our stack in post flop and then have to fold
