It's a bluff catcher for him. It's important that he doesn't hold Ad which you could easily be bluffing blocking the nut flush .

More likely he has AA and just doesn't like folding it, the fact he just flat called the preflop raise and did not 3-bet probably indicates he's a weaker player.
Hope you took notes.

You may want to reconsider bluffing like this in cheap MTTs, you had showdown value and a redraw to improve, what hands were you trying to get him fold?

Preflop
AA should have 3-bet, and QJo should have folded.

Flop
AA is correct to call as played. QJo can either call or jam.

Turn
AA is correct to check-call as played. As played QJo should have checked behind and taken a free card. If QJo wants to take an agressive line, it should have been done on the flop, where there was still two more cards to come and therefore more equity when called by a better made hand.

Conclusion
Both AA and QJo made a significant mistake preflop, and QJo also made a significant mistake on the turn. The flop play was fine by both.

He put in too much so when he realized he might lose he pushed it into the pot anyway. A common occurrence among people with premium hands.

The play with AA is completely fine except preflop. The player last to act might be valuebetting a worse hand like KQ, when it checks to him, or as in this case bluffing. He was also closing the action, after the other two guys folded. Finally he had a gutshot to broadway, so unless he was against a made flush, he always had at least some equity.
