The hand happened in last night's CardsChat freeroll. There were 20 players left, and 15 players were getting paid. I was in 4th place. From the UTG+1 position, I raised 2.1 BB, and the player on the BTN went all-in. If you were me, would you fold or call?

It's hard to tell, in this spot I would fold, 3 short stacks to ladder, button seems strong.

In that spot, I’d lean toward folding, mainly because of the ICM pressure with only five spots until the money and me sitting in 4th place. Even though AQs is strong, calling and losing could cripple my stack and take away a great chance at a deep run. Unless I had a solid read that the BTN was shoving super light, I’d rather preserve my position, pick better spots, and pressure shorter stacks instead of risking it all before the bubble.

I'd fold in that situation. I usually only call when there's about 10 BB left. Also, you have to consider that you were one of the chip leaders. I would 100% fold in that spot.

Please tell me you folded cause I think it's an easy fold in this spot. That's a shitty seat you have with them big stacks in those seats/spots.

Full disclosure I've never won a freeroll so what the f**k do I know :ROFLMAO:(I am a winning player thou).

Cheers!!!

Fold. Unless you have solid reads on the villain being an agressive maniac.
You both have big stacks. With no reads, what their range could be?
- AA, KK, QQ, AK - you are loosing here
- lower pairs - its a flip and you don't really want to flip at this stage, do you?

I would call. Your opponent is Brazilian. Brazilians play “Ax” very, very often. You have a strong enough hand to take the risk. It is important to consider how your opponent played before this hand, but overall, I would be willing to take the risk with this hand.

I retire to secure payment, I'm a chicken ajsjajs, besides, I don't think I'm going all in with hands like AT or AJ, which would be hands that you dominate, at best it's a flip, although it depends on the player's profile, from time to time there are very crazy people

If the SB cold calls, you can just fold - you are looking at horrible spot.

Next look at button's 3 bet %age. If they are totally manic (which I doubt looking at their pfr of 24% and the general lack of 3 betting in freerolls), like ~20%+, you can consider a call IMHO, but you are taking a fairly big risk given your stack/position as even maniacs wake up with good hands sometimes - thing is I'm never too risk averse in "fast" freerolls and would rather go for 1st place when spots arise.

Folding here is never bad from an ICM point of view so don't lose any sleep over it if you did (in fact credit to you if you found the fold!).

Couple of tips:
Have a plan for how you are going to react to a 3 bet before you bet.
Try and build up opponent reads so you aren't thinking about spots "in a vacuum" all the time.

I think it's a fold due to being close to ICM
If this was early in the tourney I would likely call, but as I said, being close to ICM is very risky.
There's a lot of combos that are winning agains't you, AA,KK, AKs,AKo,QQ, JJ. Even low pairs is a coin flip, 88,99,TT.
Your blocking most AK combos but still is very likely the villan is holding AK in a situation like this. So is up to you if you want to flip it, but odds are agains't you.

Unfortunately, I played badly and called. Fortunately, this happened in a freeroll, so I didn’t get penalized much.

Fold, just as he may have Ax, making a light 3bet, may have a better one than yours, which would leave you with 2bb and practically out of the itm.

I don't think you played wrong. Your chances were about the same. You just had bad luck. If you fold hands like that, there's no point in playing poker, especially in freerolls.

The fact that I was approaching the prize money would influence my decision, I would fold in that situation.

Don’t forget that hero is also from Brazil. Are you saying that Brazilians never fold? 😂😤

fold! I dont like to call allins with AQ reason: in most cases in my experience you will be up against AK and be underdog or a pair a coinflip.

Call was fine you lost a flip--- the BTN range is wide enough for a call most often.

For me personally, It's most definetely a fold

The only valid reason i can see to call here, is if it was a Mystery Bounty tournament and there still was biggest bounty available, but even then there are still 3 super short stacked guys that you can try to KO later with worse hands than AQs and still get KO potentially and not risking losing you whole stack.

I fold, close to the money, once I was in the bubble, got AA, paid and out against 6-7, so I learn. Lol

AQs is way to strong to raise-fold for 15 BB effective. You can go for a long ball open jam, but if you decide to minraise and get jammed on, its a snap call. People, who tell u to fold, hate money and dont want to win tournaments. Also on a sidenote you should rejam like a complete maniac, if a large part of your player pool will raise-fold AQs for 15BB effective 😊

Arguable; you're putting in 32k to win 79k (roughly), and you have 46% equity, so the call is about +4000 ChipEV after conditioning on the opponent's hand.

The call gets much worse with ICM, but it's still not obviously bad. If opponent ever does this with KQ, QJ, or Ax with x < Q, it's probably correct.
