“In the first few levels of a big event, do you prefer avoiding high-variance flips,
or do you take them if the EV looks good?
Do you prioritize survival early or building a stack early?”

My approach is to play speculative hands early on (when I have a big stack relative to the blinds) but I only do so if I can get in cheap. Usually I do not make very risky moves early on because I’d rather survive the early phases of the tournament. I leave the higher risk plays for when I am short-stacked.

I play more cautiously at the beginning, as I want to get further, but as long as the cards are cheap, I watch the flop more often.
