When a full-ring MTT table slowly breaks down to 6-max or even 4-handed, I often feel that my usual strategy doesn’t work the same way. Players start opening wider, 3-betting lighter, and the game becomes much more aggressive overall.
I try to adapt by opening a bit wider myself and defending my blinds more actively, but sometimes I feel like I either over-adjust or stay too tight.
How do you personally deal with the shift from full-ring to short-handed play? Do you focus more on aggression, position, or hand selection when the table gets short?
Would love to hear different perspectives on this, since I think this transition is one of the trickiest parts of tournaments.
