personal preference question:
in tournament poker, when you likely have the best hand by the river against a straightforward non-sticky villain, do you bet the river for max value (but risk the villain playing perfect by folding most of their range) or do you bet what you think the villain is willing to call (but risk missing out on value)?

MTT theory question:
if this scenario is run 1000 times, which strategy nets you more final tables?

coz, in poker literature, i've seen both strategies being advocated:
- bet max, let villain's calling be their problem
- bet to exploit

Isn't max value and betting what villain is willing to call supposed to converge to an optimal point?

Hi :)
In the situation you described, I am more inclined to the maximum rate. In my opinion, this solution is more effective. Of course, I do not have statistics of 1000 hands, however, in my opinion, the maximum bet will be more effective in the long run.

Depends how much is in the pot arleady from earlier betting rounds
If there is enough winning without showdown and less chips can give advantage in next hand.
Definitely don’t want to show my hand for free

Bet size is always seen in relation to pot size. If the board texture, our range and opponents range warrant a large bet, go for it.

Large bet size is always better to maximize winnings as well as bluffing.
