The last hand before the wsop 2024 main event final table, we find Padron with A6 off-suit, who decided to go all in preflop, despite a raise and a call ahead of him. Many people thought Padron punted his chips, considering he only had eight or nine BB left while there was a raise and call in front of them.

My question? Was Padron's A6 a punt of chips or not?

Video below - hand starts around time stamp 54:15

No. He's shortstacked with about 8BBs roughly. You have a min raise and 2 flat calls. Padron on the BTN (who even said "this is it" before looking at his cards). He was looking for a spot to make his move. And he probably figured any Ace is good time to do it with after 2 flat calls. It's a gutsy shove, but I don't see it as a punt. Maybe he was expecting 1 call but not 2. And hopefully had the better hand going into the flop - maybe he was thinking KQ/KJ or a small pocket pair (under 6s), or at least hoping that was the case.

If he had a larger stack, then you could call it a punt. But being as shortstacked as he was, I don't think this was a punt.

Yes, obviously. It was a massive punt. At least $100,000 EV mistake, maybe $200,000. Even ATo would be a fold here.

Open came from early position or even Utg if I am not mistaken. Doubt this position opens light there on the ft bubble and highly doubt people just randomly call there after.

He is very likely to get called by a better hand/a hand that dominates him.

Maybe not a complete Punt but a pretty bad allin on the bubble of the main event ft imo. Short stacked or not.

Seems like a punt after being card-dead, and his plan here with A6o against a raise and a call can only be to improve. Could fold and see a few more hands, 10-handed. Besides, if Mizrachi can battle back from a couple of BBs, anyone can, right? 😆

That’s the first time I actually saw this hand. Wow definitely a tough spot and for all that money on the line, what pressure! It’s hard to say in that moment what I would do but with only 8 BBs I’m probably doing the same and then doing the walk of shame lol

Yes its definitely a punt. There is a good reason, why two players in front of him folded AT, and AK just called the UTG open. Even though he only had 8-9 BB left, he still had at least another orbit to find a better spot than this one.

I'm pretty sure this is very punty. I don't think A6o is ever a 3 bet, especially not after an UTG open. But with the payjump and prestige of a main event FT on the line too, you surely have to wait for a better spot than this. Most opens are just to 2 bbs, so even a call in bb leaves you with 4 bbs to shove if you connect in any way.
