Why do your parents believe playing it is an issue? Are you staying up all night allowing it to effect your school work?
I know when I started gambling my mother didnt approve but once she knew I wasnt going crazy throwing money down the drain and actually saw me win a few times, she chilled out. Plus it was my own money I was gambling with ;)

I definitely wouldnt say choose poker over school!!
Unless you felt it was your deepest desire to become a poker professional and nothing else will satisfy you. Then who am I to say you are wrong to follow your dreams! :) 
But just keep in mind that your parents only want the best for you, dont argue with them because of it, understand where they are coming from! 
If my kid was good at poker and wanted to keep playing I would probably allow it once it wasnt effecting his/her school work (play at the weekends) and maybe give him/her a limit that I can keep an eye on and make sure he/she isnt getting themselves into debt.
At the same time most pro's are probably skilled in some other field that was their day job before dedicating all their time to poker. If in the end you discovered professional poker wasnt for you, you may regret not having a degree to fall back on. Whatever you decide, I wish you well :)
