Split hands are often not profitable. In lowball you will split the low fairly often and if that hand does not take the hi hand also, you will be quartered.  Getting quartered is almost always bad.

Add in the issue with rake, and betting becomes an issue.  Most Stud is Limit, but even then 2 maniacs can bust themselves to the rake by capping every round, and then splitting the pot.  You will need to understand how to deal with maniacs.

So all in all I say Stud 8 requires more skill.

Stud 8 is more of an action game, as is PLO8.  To be successful at either requires similar situational thinking.

IMHO

Comparatively, HE has a simpler set-up than the split games (S8 and PLO8).  Reading skills are similar, and hand selection in HE is generally simpler than in the split games.  So this contention is debatable.  The 'more skill required' comes largely from the 'No Limit' aspect of the game.
