There are not a lot of Stud/Stud8 players who write about the game online.  At least not a lot that I've seen.  Most of the players here are playing NLHE, and of those who venture into other games, their primary stud experience with either stud is via a HORSE tourney now and then.

Either can be profitable.

Stud pure would seem to be the possibly more profitable version because once you get up in stakes people have learned how to fold. Thus when you get in a hand you are more likely to get heads up earlier in the betting.  Implications are that on average, the fewer players in for the last 2 streets would offer the best chance for profit.

On the other hand, even at higher stakes the Stud8 version inherently means more action, thus bigger pots, but that is tempered by the often split and worse quartered pots.

If you could find a NL Stud game, it would probably be the most profitable.  But honestly, we just don't see NL Stud online.
