I don't know if I would qualify under your definition of "good" but I'm a lifetime winning player by a long shot.  I've had to play without a tracker/HUD at times for various technical reasons (site updates, different computer, bugs in a new tracker version, etc.) and it really didn't affect my winrate that I could tell.  It did force me to concentrate more, take better notes (mental or physical), and perhaps tighten up a bit, particularly when playing multiple tables.  When playing 1-2 tables, I can pretty quickly deduce a player's style/skill without a HUD.  I use it because it's available and it frees me up to play more tables/hands than I might otherwise.

It's a widely held misconception (especially among ignorant people who have never actually learned to use it) that LEGAL poker software like PT/HM makes a bad player into a good player just by installing and starting it up.  It's a TOOL -- much like a book or coaching video -- that can certainly accelerate improvement when applied properly, but by itself it won't change your game, any more than handing a random guy a hammer and some nails makes him a carpenter.  In fact for those that DON'T learn to use it properly, it can hurt your game, because you become a slave to stats without understanding them or your own leaks.
