This is
so true. The 2nd hand you described (Ad Ah Qc 10d) is a beauty. All 4 cards are 'on the job' helping your possibilities. The Qc, although not suited, is right in there for straight possibility, either helping the 10, the ace, or both (i.e. if JKT hit the board).
This is only application to H/L, which you were not playing... Conversely, an A2 is also a 'naked low' if unaccompanied by a 3, 4, 5 or even 6 - unless they are suited at least once to a high card. I don't know what the actual
odds are, but my guess is that there IS no low in maybe 30 - 40% (?) of all hands, so the 'hi' considerations should always factor in more heavily.
