Ace-King Never Wins!!!!!!!!!!

...except at the world series of poker Final Table.

For those not watching last night, AK was dealt to players a total of 24 times, and WON EVERY SINGLE TIME 100% including one hand vs KK. (I saw everything up until HeadsUp play when I finally feel asleep, so you can let me know if it lost during this brief timeframe.)

I don't think A-K ever got beat even heads up. Final hand was K-Q (merson) vs. Q-10 (sylvia). Merson prevailed.

That is all.

Saw that sylvia guy call an allin with 8 left holding Q8 & suckout on river, figured if they are gonna play like freeroll fish, no point in wasting my time watching.

What "final hand" are you talking about ?

Not the one that won the tourney.

That was Merson vs Sylvia , two rather bizzare shoves, after the 11 hour nitfest

I don't know if I agree. I think they played well, especially at the final table.

Also, you will dish out a fair share of suck outs to make it that deep in my opinion.

However, I do agree the new players are very loose agressive compared to the veterans.

But what about the total donkey suck out Duhamel laid on Affleck in 2010? I seriously thought that guy just donked his way to the final table.

Regardless of all that, these players outlasted thousand of competitors. That is something....

yes the hand vs merson KK was oh so sick. Nearly puked on myself

Tried bluffing with A-K the other day in a tournament and had to fold...found out later that the people are in the tourney call anything.

people playing wsop are not just good theyre lucky too.i mean it.go back and watch every wsop and youll see that the november 9 were communicating with god in order to get there.one outers two outers and so on.so ak in their hands always meets a partner on the flop

Perhaps. But you are only seeing the televised stuff. You are not seeing every grueling hour of grinding for the whole tournament.

The amount of time those two put in on the final table was sick. Over eleven hours or something like that. I would've done the same thing.

AK did win every time but it also was not called most of the time either. when there's that much $$$ on the line they don't play as many speculative hands. that's why it took so many hands, i would've loosened up like when siliva won that huge hand with the 67 strait against KK.

Duhamel might of sucked out on that hand but he's hardly prroven himself a donk. Very solid results since ME win.

WSOP heads up was great, but idk about your theory...I win alot of hands with AK.

Cannot believe they played three handed for over eleven hours.Wondering if ESPN will rethink showing the final table live? I'm sure there weren't very many people watching the whole show of the final three.

One person I know went to bed then got up and thought that it was being showed over again. Then realized it was still live.

Haha I laughed at the title. I was going to write about how successful AK was at the final table, until I realized the title was written about the AK's success at the WSOP final table.

I will say though...AK is a lot stronger 3-handed than it is 9-handed. And since the majority of the AK hands were dealt 3 handed (or at least 6 handed or something...) I guess they would have a better chance to win.

The 100% win percentage is crazy though. Especially against the kings. I couldn't believe the 4 fell on the river to make the straight.

Also for the record, I went to bed around 3:30 or so eastern time (12:30 Vegas time). Woke up 4 hours later. First thing I did was searched on the internet to found out who won. Couldn't find anything. After a minute searching I think in the back of my head "Oh my god it's not over yet." Sure enough I turned the TV back on just in time to see Balsinger get eliminated.

I think that people need to realize that you will not always win with AK. If you do not hit on the flop you need to fold AK. A lot of people miss play this hand.

Great to see that Tournament play is still a very profitable proposition (just from reading some of the posts in this thread).

As far as the play being 'freeroller-ish', I think many players with perhaps less experience at higher level play will misunderstand the position players are putting their opponents in with light 4bets vs. stack sizes & table dynamics (ie. ICM) where it puts villain in an extremely awkward position as they won't likely be deep enough to just flat pre so are left with the tough decision of going for it... shove or fold vs. the 4bet. So what might appear like a > zomfg!!! that freak'n donkey just 6bet-allin w A6o might actually be a great play given the circumstances (some of which we will be unaware due to metagame stuff).

Only questionable play I witnessed was the Euro dude getting 80bb's in pre with KQ (vs. AK) with some 25-30bb stacks on the table. I think this play was just bad in general but also with ICM considerations it made it that much worse!
I did fall asleep for a couple of hours of the 3-handed play though but the parts I did watch I thought were played real well.
More commentary from Olivier Busquet would always be appreciated (but then again, the general poker public might be listening & actually get better which is obviously -ev). Antonio does a nice job too, but maybe goes one level less deep as far as levels of thinking go (probably more suited to the poker audience viewing the tournament though).
'gg' 'wp' by all! Especially the final 3! (Ausmus did a GREAT job of moving up too!). Glad I stayed up til' 6am watching this play out even if it made a mess of my day on Wed.

I guess I was a bit delirious myself, after that marathon.

I thought Merson had open shoved, but apparently / obviously not, per the update from wsop.com

Greg Merson had the button, and raised to four million. Jesse Sylvia three-bet to 9.5 million, Merson four-bet jammed for effectively 69.3 million, and Sylvia went into the tank.

Tell that to the guy that knocked myself & another guy out yesterday with his AK. I got to be bubble boy b/c of it. His king came on the turn.
To your point, though, I see a large amount of people in the live MTTs I play play AK, AJ, AQ, A rag all the way to showdown when they have NOTHING. Then they get pissed when they lose the pot. Retards.

Isn't this the truth. I once had a guy call off about $120 to get to the river against my 10-10 (which was an overpair) with A-K off. Of course he rivers a king, and raises me all in when he does. I wish I would have had a set to punish him for his stupidity, but this was not the case. There was no other draws this guy had except making a pair. I made pot size bets the whole way.

This is pretty frequent at live card rooms. People will spend alot of money to get to the river with A-K. I just think they are donkeys, and I hope they never learn how stupid this is.

But what do I know? This is just my opinion.
