I played a lot of mixed games before I cashed out, but it's important to look at the variance of the game you're playing as well as the player pool. Like with Stud, it's a naturally high variance game, it's a game of slim edges that will bring you money over time. PLO can be a shit show, just so much variance and high rake that I think it would be tough to work your way up unless the player pool is just terrible.

Razz, Stud8, and 5 card draw are lower variance games, as is Omaha 8. You can expect more consistent returns, but the games are often dry. Although if you get a fish at a any these games they can be really profitable and be drawing very thin. Like with 5 card draw every hand is at least a 3:1 favorite vs. any other, so there's large edges there. I know because I have a lot of experience at that game and that's how I built my roll from around 500 to 2500. With Stud8 fish will routinely draw to half the pot so you're often freerolling. The player pool becomes a major factor with lower variance games because being tight is often the best strategy and the regs know this.
