You are a dirtbag how dare you??? lol totally kidding no your not a cheater at all, any info that someone willingly gives you at the poker table is fair game IMO. It was most definitely rude as heck on the part of the Korean players, and may have very well cost your villain money. Now if I were you I would have told the men that you spoke korean and that shouldnt be talking abot their hands at the table. Mostly because for all you know someone else at the table speaks Korean as well and it could help another player in a pot against you. for example imagine your villain speaks korean and ends up in the same situation as you. So after the hand I would have politely told them to stop talking about their hands(in any language)

definitely not a cheater.. At the local casino I play at, one of their most enforced rules is English only at the table... eliminates the problem all together.

Although, you definitely should've responded to them in Korean a little later and I'm sure that would have shut them up

OMG, I hate players who fold hand like 3J and the flops comes JJ3 ( while I have AA) and they say: ERGHHH I FOLDED Full house.
These people are destroying poker, because they tell very important information to other players.

you are not a cheater at all. you are just using all the information you can get to make the best decision. It is soo wrong of that dude to comment on the hand while in the middle of it and if it was done at my casino people would not be okay with it at all.if anyone was cheating it was him.

What I found interesting in this story is:

1) if you understood them, can I assume you are Korean also? If so, how come those 2 older Koreans didn't realize you understand them?
2) Assuming you are all 3 Koreans, I get the idea that the losing player might actually think that you three are colluding. I am not saying your are, but he might think so.

EDIT : Sorry, I see now you already made this clear in the forum by mentioning you are american-korean.

Well, it ain't cheatin' and but it is dishonest. Those things are similar but different. Clearly, you feel bad about it or otherwise you wouldn't be coming to a dump like this and asking a bum like me this question. So, ill tell you straight, you were dishonest son. The right thing to do would have been to say you understood their tongue and they should be more careful in the future.

When your playing with money on a poker table, I think we want everyone to be honest. There's nothing more than we hate is cheaters. You didn't necessarily cheat, but it was close. -Good huntin'

writes this post as he thinks back to the pot he lost last night before leaving the casino TPGK vs. OverPair.. "Fk'n guy.... pfff... not only did he have the Aces but the ____ was cheating too!"

OP, Question for ya... how do you feel the next time you see villain? Perhaps that's a better judge of what is right or wrong for you... as opposed to asking if it is 'cheating as per rules' to a bunch of people online?

What would you have hoped/wished villain had done were the shoes on the other feet?

You aren't a cheater of many reason, one reason is that you don't want to cheat! :) And what were you alternative? Fold a premium hand because you heard two foolish Koreans talk? No no, have fun with your 100$ ;)

Absolutely not.You cant help what morons say or do at the table and if they say something you can use to your advantage then thats either the casinos or their fault.I woudn't think twice about it.

No cheating at all. If they think to break the rule of "english only" and u understand their language its bad luck for them and luck for u. No point in telling them that u understand it. Its bad luck that the villian left the table and didn`t rebuy. U could make a lot of money out of it.

It seems there's a bigger question here than whether other forum members consider you a cheater using their individual definitions. It's what your personal moral / ethical standards are. Part of this involves the degree, if any, to which those standards would shift depending on how much you stand to gain.

It may not be best here to ask yourself or others the binary question of whether you cheated or not. It would seem better to ask yourself how satisfied are you with how you handled the situation.

Good point.

I would have used the information, and played my hand to win. It is in no way your fault or intention ahead of time to get info from them. You were presented with a +ev situation, yippee!!!! Take advantage of that.

I would have then asked the dealer if an English only policy applies, since the players to my side are conversing in a non- English language and left it at that. If they kept talking, I would be happy to sit there and play as ruthlessly as I could.

What were you meant to do? Fold?

Also whilst you didn't play the aces optimally, you played it a lot better than the kq, what was he beating to call your all in.

I wouldn't have folded. I think I was thinking about either shove or call. But after knowing that one of Tens got mucked, I figured I was very likely well ahead of his range and I decided to shove before he gets a chance to improve his hand. But thinking about it, he only had 2-outer bcz hitting the queen is no good due to pair on the board already. I do think it would've played similar. Just awkward how I get to play with the information of mucked cards.

-maybe the guy with KQ understood Korean and was trying to use the info on you?

- or more likely.. the Koreans were giving information to help you out..

isn't that why you feel guilty... isn't that why you left ? you had an unfair advantage..

so instead of ratting out the cheaters you left..

you may not have cheated...but you were an accessory after the fact..

this is why racism exists...because you really cant trust other groups of people ..

I think it pans out about the same regardless of the information or misinformation you where lucky enough to hear or where potentially fed, is it at all possible the Koreans wanted you to think there was one less Ten in the deck? just a thought what if you where very lucky and got the chocolates even though you where the intended victim, It's late here in Australia and i'am tired just another stupid post but none the less.

Just the wrong victim.
You should have used the old guys lack of etiquette to clean them out,
not the innocent bystander who was as you clearly know disadvantaged by them.

No! You didn't cheat at all. In poker I would only consider "collusion" as cheating. Everything else is fair game >;)

It was dishonest but you're definitely not a cheater. You felt uncomfortable because you had information about the game giving you an advantage over your opponent.

I dunno, they are pretty clearly telling each other their hands, so its likely they are colluding and best handing the table. so I'm not worried about taking them down with it

I strongly disagree. Why would you say this?

IMO he did nothing wrong. He wasnt intentionally learning a language to try to intentionally eavesdrop in on conversations. He merely was there.

Using the info you have to make the best +ev decision? Good poker.
