In December 2023, my life was brutally turned upside down. I had a serious motorcycle accident that changed everything. I broke my leg in several places. By a miracle, I was able to perform surgery and place two intramedullary rods in the tibia and fibula. The recovery would be long, extremely painful, and full of uncertainty. To this day, just remembering that excruciating pain, my whole body shakes and my throat tightens. I spent my days and nights lying in bed, barely able to move. I, who used to wake up every day at 5 in the morning full of energy and only stop at 23:00, suddenly found myself completely stuck, dependent and without a clear perspective of when all this would end. Gradually, a heavy shadow began to overwhelm me. I went into a deep depressed state. I couldn't accept that suffocating idleness. Watching pre-programmed shows on television only made me feel more empty and useless. It was precisely at that darkest moment, when I most needed a light, that poker reappeared in my life completely unexpectedly. By chance, I opened the Twitch channel of a streamer called s0u4tao (Soufortão). We started talking, became real friends, and today we are part of the same poker group. That simple conversation was the turning point that I so needed. I recovered the old accounts that I had created at random in 2010/2011. I didn't even remember that they existed anymore. I started from absolute zero: learning positions, basic ranges, bet sizes, and simple strategies. I, who was a complete “bingo professional”, began studying with determination and dedication. Poker gave me exactly what my soul needed most at that moment: purpose and joy. As my body recovered slowly and with a lot of pain, my mind finally had a challenge that made me feel alive again. Instead of sinking into pain and frustration, I had a reason to get up every day—even if it was just in my head. I remember with a heavy heart the first bad beat I experienced after returning to the tables. It was a different kind of pain, as if life was testing me right at the beginning of my recovery. But I also cherish the memory of my first victory. My heart pounded, a wave of happiness swept through me, and tears welled up in my eyes. It had been months since I had such genuine joy. It was at that exact moment that I understood: poker wasn't just a game. It was strengthening my will to fight for life. In addition to the tables, poker gave me an even more precious gift: I met several incredible players. In the group, I became friends with Fabiokvd, FF3bet, Sikaroi, Verton, and others. I created true bonds of friendship and today I am part of a community that motivates me, supports me and makes me feel that I am not alone in this journey. Today, I was able to resume my morning walk. My life is almost 100% normal. I regained my energy, my routine, and my dreams. I can't imagine being away from the tables anymore. I returned to studying regularly and, best of all, I've already managed to make a profit at the tables — and I feel in my heart that I'm getting closer to achieving that grand prize, the great victory I dream of. My old nickname, CabralFilho, which I had almost forgotten, is active again. Poker has become an important and special part of my journey of overcoming challenges. That experience taught me a profound lesson that I still carry in my heart today: even when the body is limited, weakened and everything seems to stand still, the mind can continue to grow, dream and find new paths. Sometimes salvation comes from where we least expect it—in my case, it came in the form of cards and bets. If you are going through a difficult time, bedridden, with physical limitations, or with a heavy heart, I want you to know: it is possible to find light even in the deepest darkness. For me, that light came through poker. I continue my journey with firm steps in the morning and with my eyes fixed on the grand prize on the tables. And regardless of what happens in the next few hands, I've seen the most important game of all: that of my own mind and my mental health. WAIT FOR MORE WINS!! By Fabiano Cabral Cabralfiglio
