I don't live off the poker just yet but hope to soon. I know I pro SNG'er that only keeps $800 online but would guess he has about $3k in his total roll.

And this guy has 3K per month or 'just' 3K 'now'? and how long did he took to join those 3K?

It all depends on what your standard of living is. If you're wanting to live in a apartment and are a really low spending person, your roll wouldn't have to be as big as if you owned a house, had a car payment, has kids, etc...

My pet's name = 'spot'

Mother's maiden name = 'Smith'

School teacher's name = 'Mr.Johnson'

I don't think poker pays for my coffee & smokes while playing :(

i have been for a while. the absolute minimum i'd need at any point in time to survive would be about 15-20k but I generally have much more than that available.. especially now that i'm trying to save up for a house next year.

You must still live with your parents and not eat or drive much...

I cannot live of my earnings..yet. Ofcourse i plan too, eventually i hope to have a bankroll of 50k + and never drop below it, i am in profit at the moment..check my stats online, but i am never going to get there if i keep doing what im doing, i build my bankroll to ~$600, and then i draw between $200 and $400 to spend, silly i know, but one day i will win big, its only a matter of time lol. You may laugh, but i reckon i would be happy living off my BR....only if i had at least 50k at all times (by then id probably say 100k), i set myself an 8yr target to be 'rolling in it' , 3yrs gone and im now winning tournys and making withdrawals, and controlling my buy-ins, 5yrs to go lol

your never going to make it big if you keep taking that much out of your roll. I would keep it in there and start playing bigger stakes

Time for a reality check kiddies

I know playing online poker when you are young seems really cool and you'd love to make a living at it. I am guessing that you live at home and are not married, nor have any kids.

I have a mortgage, car payments, college tuition, dental bills, car repairs / insurance, life insurance, christmas presents, birthdays, driving lessons, proms, weddings, retirement to pay for. It's called life and unless you intend on living at home with your parents until you are 40, and remain single and childless, you will not be able to support yourself through poker.

Go to school, get a good education, get a great job, or better yet, start your own business and work for yourself. Or do what I do, and do both and treat poker as you should, a fun past time.

I pay about that too. Just me and my fiance. $1200 a month comes to $14.4k/year just for rent alone.
