I once started playing in a cash game at our local Pub because I busted out of the weekly Tournament early, There were only 4 of us to start with but we knew more would join in as the Tournament progressed. We like to keep it friendly and usually only buy-in for £20.00 blinds being .25p/50p. On the very first hand I was dealt Q/J of Spades, and the BTN player raised to £1.00, I was on the BB so obviously called, The flop came K,10, 6, of Spades, now as I knew my opponent was fairly aggressive with betting, I checked, He bet out £1.00 and after some time considering the fact he could have been raising pre-flop with the Ace of Spades in his hand, So obviously I would be losing to a bigger Flush, I called hoping he didn't have that Ace. The Turn card dropped a Heart card so didn't effect the hand in any way as I still had my Flush, although if he had the bigger Flush I was throwing good money away so I checked the Turn, He bet out £2.00, and after some time considering my options I called. Now I knew I was always drawing to a Royal Flush, but I never thought it would happen, but I was also drawing to the Straight Flush if a 9 of Spades should come, and of course if he had that damned Ace my Straight Flush would beat his Ace Flush, Then it happened, The Barry Greenstein Ace on the River, The Ace of Spades, My Heart almost burst, I had the best possible hand in Poker and my new Dilemma was how to get more money into the pot? I acted a bit unsure about my next move, because too much would chase him away, and I wanted to get as much as possible, He then made some remark about not happy seeing that Ace, which opened a door for me, I replied "me neither, but it has completed my Straight," to which I bet out £5.00. He said "oh I can beat a Straight" and quickly called. I Turned over The Royal Flush and the Pub Erupted in Laughter, he had the 7/8 of Spades and was drawing to the 9 as well. I had to apologise for all the acting but I did state I was afraid he had the Ace all the time. but imagine the fireworks that would have happened had that 9 of Spades would have come, he would have the Straight Flush to the 10 and me the Straight Flush to the King. A Perfect Storm :)
