If you see AK as a "drawing hand" then you are really only thinking about the hand YOU hold.  Until you start taking into account the types of hands your opponent(s) is holding you aren't even really playing the game, but you are letting the game play itself.

Of course you may think you are considering your opponents hands, but most likely only in a "what could beat MY hand" way which is the MOST limited way to see beyond "what do I hold".

If you are looking at the game more holistically you will play AK from start to finish for the strong hand it is worth against the table you are playing and from the position you play it.

Seems to me some simple poker concepts show AK for the powerhand it is.

0. A high is actually the best hand till someone has a pair.
1.  AK is way ahead of anything but pairs.
2.  Except for two pairs (AA and KK) it is still a cointoss by the river.
3.  People don't hit the flop 2 out of 3 times meaning that frequently you are STILL ahead.

So..

Try to play AK in a way that will isolate 1 (or two) players pre flop.
If you don't hit, continue (in most cases) with a bet confident that you may still be ahead on the flop
If you do hit play for value
If you are played back at, consider your opponent in regards to their range and playstyle (as you should already be)
Be prepared to let go of A high or even TPTK.
