Brad Owen

I have been watching a lot of Brad Owen's vids on youtube and i think he plays pretty optimal poker. I am going to try to play similar to how he plays next time i play a cash game. I believe my greatest weakness is hesitation and lack of commitment when raising pre and well timed continuation bets.

I don't think it's a good idea to imitate anyone's game, especially a professional. You have to invent your own style of play based on your character and temperament.

I really like watching Brad Owen and Andrew Neeme. I think they both play well, and Brad Owen is enjoying an end of year upturn. But, I agree with your thoughts and just posted similar advice in another thread.

You have to understand and analyze your own character and what you bring to the game before you can hope to implement anything from another's game.

You also have to remember that vloggers such as Owen are filming to produce content and sometimes will push the envelope in manner that I do not believe they would without that pressure.

Again. I really like Owen's blog, it's one of the best out there, but I honestly have never thought once I'll copy his play.

If you go ahead, let us know how it works out.

I am not sure this is a good idea. He is a solid player but you are mot seeing very thing that has happened prior to the hands he is showing. He does explain many things but the parts that he does not talk about could end up hurting you.I would suggest working on your game a develop you game than trying to play similar to someone. The part you are not seeing may be so much of the reason he is making the play he is looking to make.

I dont think you should copy anyones style of play,i think you should just play your game,how your heart wants to play it,and go on from there.

It's true I'm that way too, in theory I understand the game well, but when it comes to practice lately I'm not able to improve my results in the past I was able to play and go further in mtt

I think his vlogs are interesting, yes, but not really worth much as far as good instructional material goes because you do not see the whole picture. Remember that there are several hours of play on any given occasion but you only see a fraction of that in the vid...so he can edit it to cast himself in a better light. For entertainment...OK, for instruction, not so much.

I agree!….you have to know why you do or why you don’t do things at the tables…..just to imitate might help once, maybe twice, but not to handle the game

Brad Owen is so 2019.
(Edit: That is quite unfair and condescending, so I watched Brad's latest video "Most Ridic Hand w/Aces" and it is superb - see my next post about it!)

Here in 2021, everyone seems to be talking about the "phenom" Mikki Mase.

LMAO Talk about a trip... I find it hard to understand that no one is discussing Mikki's story here on CardsChat, but then again, it shows that CC is not really interested in "sensational" or "newsworthy" poker types.

At least Brad Owen is a serious poker player, and no one has ever disputed that fact. A really down to earth kid... Mikki Mase is much more along the lines of a reality show, he suddenly bursts onto the scene out of nowhere flashing stacks of high society (LOL) with a totally wild and crazy story that many of us just have a difficult time believing... think of Dan Bilzerian and all the rumors surrounding him, perfect comparison. Or Alec Torelli who used to be a "hot new name" but over time developed a somewhat less-than-stellar reputation, shall we say...

Anyhow, not trying to cause a ruckus - I'm kind of glad to see people interested in actual, real, honest-to-goodness poker players like Brad Owen instead of players who seem more interested in generating "social media presence".

P.S. If you want my suggestion (which I don't know why you would LOL)... I highly recommend Bart Hanson's YT channel, "CrushlivePoker". Bart is a high stakes crusher and his hand reviews are absolutely top notch in terms of obtaining solid advice from a very good player.

...if I never clicked on this thread then I never watch this amazing Brad Owen video.

But I did decide to watch it, and OMG, if you ever make a mistake at a live table, just watch this and realize you're not the only one who ever did it.

This is absolutely a sickening feeling when it happens, and obviously the way it turned out. even more sickening for his opponent. But Brad's talk about his error is entirely honest and he even flipped the guy a black chip to try and compensate him for the mistake... that is just incredible sportsmanship from Brad, I am highly impressed and thankful I saw this video!!


P.S. His line about "giving tourists free cards" and "leave that up to the escort service professionals" is absolutely priceless, if you've ever walked down the Strip in Vegas you'll know exactly why it is such a hilarious comment. Just a perfect LOL line from Brad.

I think it is difficult if not impossible to imitate someone else's play, what you observed is a very limted set of particular plays under specific situations, and there are too many variables for you to do so. Moreover, poker is a game requires you to think, and thinking is not something to emulate, you need your very own ideas.

table dynamics is always into consideration, everyone is right it is very hard to copy one's game because every opponent is different

I am so glad Tiltmode1987 made this thread! Brad really is terrific.

I subscribe to a lot of poker channels but for whatever reason, I had not subscribed to Brad's channel... but I must say, his videos are EXTREMELY enjoyable to watch, just solely from an entertainment standpoint... however he is also teaching his excellent and efficient thought process as he entertains, making his channel one of the best out there. I am now a subscriber, thanks to this thread which made me realize what I was missing!

Having said that about Brad, I have long been subscribed to Nathan's "BlackRain79Poker" channel and I always eagerly click on each new video to see what concept Nathan is explaining on that particular day. I appreciate that you keep them relatively brief - they really are the perfect time length at about 10 minutes each, and they always give me something new to ponder and consider... so thank you Nathan for your contribution to this great game we all love!! Hope you are blessed in the New Year, along with all the wonderful CardsChat peeps!!
