It depends on who you talk to about BRM and how nitty you want to be. You should buy into a MTT for no more than 2% of your BR, SNG's 2% to 5%, you really want to stick closer to the 2%. For cash games you should have around 25 buyins. So If you are playing 10nl, the max buyin is $10.00, you should have $250.00 in your BR. There are many players that will play cash with with 20 buyins. Again it's up to you on how nitty you want to be. Just remember the more of a BR nit you are the more padding you have for downswings.
 
As far as game selection goes. It doesn't really matter to me. I make more money consitantly playing cash. However, the chance at a big payday makes me play MTT's and multitable SNG's. If I were you I would focus on cash and work tourny's in on the side. However, there are a lot of players that play mostly MTT's and SNG's. It's really up to you as a player. The most important thing is proper BRM, which you are asking about. You also want to study and learn the game, which you are doing by being a member here at CC. So you are on the right track.
