Cardinal Rules

Hello, all:

I'm hoping this could be a bit of fun.

How many of you, have your own private "Cardinal Rules" when it comes to Poker, and especially tournaments.

That is, do you have any of your own personal rules that you observed, no matter what?

I'm not asking for any judgements of your personal rules, but instead, what are they?

I have a number of them that I observe, so I'll start by listing one of them.

One of my cardinal rules is "Never enter a tournament that costs more than 10% of my bankroll".

Do you have any that you'd like to share, whether it be any quirks you may have, or what you do in certain situations?

Again, I'm not asking people to be judgemental, I'm simply asking what some of your "Cardinal Rules" are.

I'll be posting more of mine in the near future, depending on responses to this thread.

1,One of my cardinal rules is "Never enter a tournament that costs more than 2% of my bankroll prefer to keep it much lower 0. something".

[/FONT]2Always be willing to improve myself be honest and learn by my mistakes before claiming rigged or conspiracy theory and blaming others for disastrous bankroll management decisions.

3If tired or not on A game stay away from the higher stakes.

4Have a long term plan of action but set small manageable goals along the way.

Cardinal Rules:
1. Put my cell phone on mute. I think it is rude to have my phone make noises at the poker table.
2. Do not talk on my cell phone at the poker table. I step away from the table to talk.
3. Put my cell phone down when I am in the hand.
4. Don't touch my face after touching all those dirty chips and cards. (Very hard to do.)

my only self rule is 'regardless of results, don't exit an mtt regretting any of your decisions.'

Yes, of course, I have my own rules.
My first and foremost rule is to play poker only when you are in a good mood.

I have some.

1. Follow strict bankroll management trying to keep bankroll of at least 50 MTT buyins at any time.
2. Do not play when not in optimal shape (tired, stressed, drunk)
3. Try to focus on the game and avoid distractions while playing.
4. Research how much time certain MTT can take at most (if you win it) and play only if you have such time and it will not harm your other activities.

I do have a couple of rules. Limping is for loosers. Exept for especific strategy calls i is either raise or fold. Another is to paly as if you had an unlimited bankroll, dont sweat the money.
Also paly tournaments from the beginning to majke chips and win , not just to make the money.

Do NOT even think of drinking alcohol and playing poker.

Do NOT even try to entertain yourself with the casino option that so many poker rooms offer.

Never go all in pre-flop. To me this is just another version of russian roulette. I have dozens of rules like this but this is #1

Another good one is

If you don't flop it drop it. In other words don't spend a lot of money "buying" cards and hoping something comes in unless there is a good chance of winning.

Say you have strong hole cards but a weak flop. I never call more than a minimum bet hoping that big slick pans out.

I only use two cardinal rules before starting a tournament
1 take it with fun considering that you don't always win
2 not lose passivity if we find ourselves with a bad game or bad streak

Wow! That's a great one, and I'm going to use it. How many hours do you usually spend, replaying a hand, and thinking, "why did I do that"?

I have to start thinking that "I did that", because it was the right decision.

Another of my cardinal rules, is:

Unless you have the nuts, don't go "all-in" against someone with more chips than you.

I know I lose a lot of pots this way, but I stay in more tournaments longer.
