Most people in cash games will 'cashout' at a point of double-up or triple-up. However, in a tournament...1st place might get 100+ times their buyin... which is a way higher profit.... which is typically way more than the average player or any player stands to earn in a cash game. (I believe) ...To make the money, or top 3, in more than 30% of the tournaments you play, is considered "good" or "average" for most professional poker players... TIME WISE...for me...CASH GAMES ALL DAY... with an occasional tournament or two with "good value" (i've been trying to improve on my 2-day tourneys).... ...The beauty with cash games online, is that you can cash out whenever you want and hop on another table (at another stake even)WAAAY FASTER THAN YOU COULD OR WOULD IN A LIVE CASINO, making your "Rounds" so to speak...... switching between tables in a matter of seconds...Doing this properly while following a risk model for bankroll management, then, i believe, and in my experience, cash games become more profitable. ...Where as when you're playing LIVE at a friends house, or house game... you have to call thirty minutes... or an hour... before you leave(If you want to leave when you're "UP").
