While I'm not surprised that misinformed and not-very-computer-literate people think this is possible, trust those of us who know what we're talking about when we say, nobody is viewing your hole cards on Stars or Tilt (or most any other room these days). Why? The only hole cards transmitted to each client, are that client's hole cards and showdown hands. Hole card information for everyone is only available at the server end. Connections to the server are secured by SSL and high-level encryption, typically AES256, which is unbreakable. The only way someone could access the server and cheat by using your hole cards, is if it's from the inside. In the very, very early days of poker, some rooms transmitted everyone's hole cards to every client. Obviously this, combined with lax or nonexistent encryption standards back then, led to a lot of poker cheats at the time. But they were eventually quashed. Going back to the superuser scandals that people keep referring to, the inside job scenario is exactly what happened. These were carried out by employees, former employees, and the friends they shared it with, using a known, intentional back-door on the server (not the client) that they could login to and watch hole cards as they played. It was not done via the client software. These were not hackers, and not necessarily even computer literate people. They just knew how, and had access to do so already, to login to the server backend and see everything that was going on. It was not something that the public at large, or even hackers for that matter, were able to do. When it was discovered, the server software was audited and those back-doors were closed, shutting down this avenue permanently. Recently Cake and Ultimatebet were found to be using in-house, substandard encryption protocols that were easily decrypted *if* the attacker was within your network (i.e. in your house, dorm, etc. or accessing your wifi connection). All this showed, however, was that person's login credentials and hole cards. So while they could have theoretically cheated *you* they could not do so for the whole table. Both were reportedly fixed, or soon to be fixed, promptly after the reports surfaced. So there really is nothing to worry about, especially from the likes of PS and FT who are state-of-the-art when it comes to their technology, unless you just want to be paranoid of rogue employees cheating you. In which case I guess you're also paranoid of any other online business that has access to your sensitive info and money, such as your bank, credit card company, etc. ^^^ This.
