Chopping micro tournaments

I recently got heads up in the $3.30 7-card-stud mtt, and we were close in chips and I asked him if he wanted to deal/chop as I often do in these situations.
Should I try to be more confident and pridefully go for the win against a player that might be less experienced than me or is chopping perfectly sound in your opinions?
Heads up stud8 is just such a strange game.

By the way I let him win after the deal .

I always go for the win, but I dont see anything wrong with chopping. I have never done this though. How does it work in the rankings? I assume whoever had more chips at the time of the chop gets 1st?

Add the first prize to the second prize and then divide the amount In relation to their chips.

Go for it. Playing hard to get to that point and then cut a deal. Why?

I think chopping is perfectly ok, 2nd place often gets more than they would have anyway and its a nice safety net because you can play well heads up and still lose as a big favourite

Wp.... Ive chopped once well i was card head at the time well worth it!!

the money isn't life-changing between 1st and 2nd

for chopping, the tournament is still played out for who officially wins,
i just capped bets and folded and let him have 1st, it was quickest

No disrespect but if you're a competetive poker player why would you "let him have first"? Have some faith in your abilities

For myself it depends on a few things -
how big of a difference is there between the payouts
how high are the blinds
Do I feel I have a much greater edge over my opponent in short-handed (or HeadsUp) play.

If blinds are super huge & opponent(s) are familiar with playing highblind/shove-fold play then I'm all for the chop (preferring to leave a bit to play for, depending upon what the chop is).

If there's still a fair bit of play left (not too often in most tournaments I play online) then I might consider playing it out.

I made it to final 3 in a Titan Tourney the other night. If they had a deal feature I would've gone for it in a heartbeat (my g/f's apt. had just been broken in to and she'd had her computer stolen... this is the news I hear as soon as we hit final 3 players... give me a chop anyday!!!). I punted my stack & went out in 3rd (sigh).

So, as with most things in poker ---> "it depends"

think PO's "it depends" is the best answer. if i felt i was the better player and chipstacks were about even then i would just play for the win. on the other hand if the buyin was a significant portion of my bankroll then i think a split would be the safe play. it would really depend on the situation.
