Chris "Jesus" Ferguson POY

Im actually routing for Chris to win player of the year for a couple of reasons.
One, before I ever even desired to play poker, I remember seeing him on ESPN when I was trying to get a basketball score. So he was literally the first name in poker that I knew. Two, he was the first to do a 0 to 10,000 bankroll challenge showing it is possible to for anyone with internet access to make 10,000 dollars. Three, the guy can cut a carrot in half with a playing card I mean come on. And yeah I know there was all that unsavory stuff with FT but have you seen him with out that trench coat on? He weighs like 90 pounds. Hes harmless

Chris is clearly a great player and has been very impressive this wsop especially under such a microscope of scrutiny. That being said, I think it's a slap in the face to everyone that ever played on full tilt. He never acknowledged the public, accepted responsibility, or apologized for at the very least gross mismanagement. The fact that he teamed up with Lederer under the moniker 'BlackFriday' is a slap in the face as well. Clearly, that was intended to send a message. It's a stain on the POY title and WSOP shouldn't let any poker player that has had such a negative impact on the game even play. Let alone gain success. I am glad the community has given him a very unwelcoming hard time.

He settled with the DOJ stipulating he was unaware of wrong doing at Full Tilt, he had an undisclosed amount of money as part of the settlement taken from him. I'm not him. Maybe he thought that was restitution enough and no amount of appologizing would change things.
Or the fact that Phil Hellmuth was a part of the Ultimate Bet scandal. He appologized and said he didn't know. I believe him but I'm sure if he had said nothing and let his lawyers do the talking the world would have a different take on that.
I look at the big picture and know that Lehman Brothers, Goldman Sachs et al stole a lot more money from many more people and the DOJ never prosecuted them or got any money back.
So yeah I have mixed feelings on all of it. But one thing is for certain, he is a hell of a poker player.

I don't know all the circumstances with respect to the Full Tilt issue. Popular opinion appears to be that he was at least partially at fault for patrons losing their money on that website....no opinion one way or another, but banning him from playing the WSOP would be wrong....boo him, cheer for his opponents if you wish, but banishment from WSOP events is probably legally impossible. If he can still win when there will be players who take more chances at the table against him, that's fine....leave it be.

I guess the difference most people see between Ferguson and Hellmuth is that Hellmuth was very clearly just a paid spokesperson, he wasn't involved in actually running the company.

Ferguson, on the other hand, was an actual founder and owner of Full Tilt, so he either knew what was going on, or he was grossly incompetent if he didn't.

The way he's never even really showed contrition for it is what's always grated for me. I think he'll be a pretty unpopular POY if he wins.

I understand that and why I know if he had appologized it would have went a long way in some peoples eyes and have no effect in others. I can't help but draw the comparison to our sitting president who settled a lawsuite and avoided prosecution with one of his fradulent companies, that he founded and was co owner of before he was elected. He has never made an apology or admitted wrong doing and there are those like me who wouldn't believe him if he did

He is the best player for me also!I admire him truly!I've seen playing many times.I playing since 2011 poker ,I started on FullTilt and he really inspired me specially how he started and got one of the best professional poker player.He is just amazing!

Not sure I forgive him for his involvement in FT. He and Lederer should have been banned or serve some sort of poker penalty. If poker is a sport, who is policing the players? His conduct contributed to Black Friday and has set the sport back decades.

Yeah I don't care how great of a player Ferguson is. The part he played in the Full Tilt scandal is ridiculous. He never even apologized. EVEN Howard Lederer apologized for the whole debacle.

He has no guilt at all.

What is all the crap about, it is a POY award, what happened in 2009 has nothing to do with the POY award for 2017.

Donald Trump is an arsehole and he was made president even though people knew he is an arsehole.

If Chris does enough to win the title that's all that matters.

I'm with Ron, Chris looks up to Jay.

I really wish people would stop referring to poker as a sport, I don't want images of big fat people as sportsmen.

I'm with you on all of that. Especially referring to poker as a sport, it's a game, why is calling it a game a bad thing. Also, I really hate when people call it a "mind sport".

Regardless of his role in Fulltilt this is based of his poker play. You have a guy this year that played that has been charged with Manslaughter but there is no uproar over that.

It was actually 2011.

It definitely sucks that he hasn't shown any remorse to the players for the Fulltilt b.s. It is amazing though that he has done so well this year & is quite an accomplishment. Even after being away from the game.

Agreed on him copying Jay.... the resemblance is uncanny!
