On top of that, you're talking about playing mostly live poker.  The stakes you play in live poker directly affect how much money you can make, because unlike online you can't multitable.  Let's say you somehow won at a crazy high rate like 10BB/hr (which translates to about 30BB/100 at the rate live poker games go).  In a $1/$2 game that's still only $20/hr... and like I mentioned, that's a crazy high win rate.  In reality it'd be something lower.

On top of that you've gotta drive three hours to get there, which is a cost you've got to cover, and I assume it's not something you're going to be doing every day around school so you can get in what... two sessions a week?

If you can play online things might be different, you can get in a much higher volume of hands because the pace of play is faster and you can multitable, plus you'd cut out the three-hour commute so you'd have more time to actually play.  But I think you're underestimating just how hard it is to beat the games consistently enough to actually live off.

Like I said, I don't want to be a downer but if you're looking to pay for college I'd be looking at getting a regular job and just play poker on the side.
