All I knew was that if I had a pocket pair, AK, AQ or AJ, I was shoving and folding everything else. Nobody called me during the first couple of hours so I picked up blinds from time to time and limped into the money. Satisfied with this, I continued my strategy not realising that everyone else was opening up their range. Several times I got my chips in with a worse hand but got lucky and kept doubling up, while soaking up the subsequent insults with a rare dignity. I finally finished 4th and won over $200 - I was ecstatic. I thought to myself, “If I can do this knowing nothing, just imagine what I could achieve if I actually had a clue what’s going on!” You can probably guess what I’m about to say: over the last 18 months, I’ve studied, contemplated and practiced – I’m a much better poker player now and haven’t got anywhere near finishing 4th in a tourney since that first time![/SIZE] [SIZE=3]So I guess my questions are: did anyone else have a freakily good result the first time they ever played poker? Also, can anyone identify with the idea that too much knowledge can sometimes act as a hindrance rather than a help? I know the more you read and play the better but occasionally I long for that time when I literally had no idea what I was doing![/SIZE] [SIZE=3]I know I’m new here so it might take a while for people to read my posts and reply but I’m happy to be here and hope what I write can entertain and interest all the poker addicts here!
