As someone big into golf, I can confirm that this is true. There are many similarities. For example, "tilt" is very real in golf as well. The best golfers learn how to forget about the last hole and focus on this one: just like poker pros "forgetting" the bad beat last hand and focusing on the current hand.

My wife

I am fortunate to Love the game but not need the game. Two years ago it was different where my poker winnings were paying my medical bills. Now that it’s sorted I don’t want to stop but now it’s a waste of time according to my wife. There have been several arguments about time spent studying the game. To her it’s a waste I am not even playing.

"Ego-less" Play Is Best

Sort of agree and disagree. Here is how I see it.
Emotions can certainly interfere greatly with good poker play. Non-attachment to Ego is best for your game.

Especially, do not ever take the game 'personally'. Play with desire, but an 'indifference' to the game. Play mostly when you can stay 'focused' and not distracted.

Detach yourself 'emotionally' from the game and always maintain a calm & cool demeanor. Emotions can cause bad decisions. When you take your emotions out of your game, other player's emotions become much clearer giving you an insightful advantage.
