Do you ever completely change your strategy mid-game?

Lately I’ve been thinking about how sometimes my whole plan for the session just falls apart after a few weird hands. Like, I come in with one strategy — solid, patient — and then boom, some loose player goes crazy and suddenly I start adjusting everything on the fly.
Do you guys also completely switch your game plan mid-session? Or do you always stick to your original strategy no matter what happens?

My strategy always includes "catch the occassion", so no, nothing to change.

If things don't work its only natural at some point to change something. It not always right but mentally I have to do it.

I think you always have to adapt to your opponents, especially at the micro stakes, no matter what strategy you use.

I've stopped trying to be balanced. I'm not good enough to do it right, and it doesn't matter most of the time.I don't want to make it sound like the game is super simple, but it really comes down to having solid fundamentals and just exploiting the very obvious mistakes that players make.

Sometimes, sticking to your plan works.
Other times, the table dynamics shift and if you don’t adapt, you drown.
Maybe the loose players tighten up.
Maybe aggression starts paying off.
Maybe your image changes, and suddenly your bluffs don’t get through anymore.
That’s when real players adjust.
Poker isn’t just about cards : it’s about reading the flow and reinventing yourself in real time.

Yes, sometimes I do. If I notice that the table dynamics or opponents' behavior change, I adjust my strategy. Poker is all about adaptation - sticking to one style all the time can make you too predictable.

If you start either a tournament or cash game with a strategy to be patient and tight, you would probably change it up if you doubled up and became the top stack at the table…you would probably get more aggressive…conversely, you would alter your play if you lost half your stack in the first half hour…your opponents’ play will also dictate how you play…that’s what poker is all about…make adjustments on the fly.

It's good to change your player type once your type is known. But don't change if you're winning!

It's a big mistake to use a rigid, unchanging strategy in poker. You need to constantly adapt. Adapt to the type of game, the phase of the game, your position, the players at the table, and even your stack size.

In tournaments, it's very important to change gears and understand where to brake and where to step on the gas.
