I like a tourney to have at least 100 players. More is cool. I tend to cash more regularly in the larger tourneys. Whereas in small tourneys, say 30 players or less, I seem to do good until we start getting close to the money. The larger the field, the more chance I have to distance myself from the smaller stacks before reaching the money bubble. 
 
As far as players go, I generally prefer to play against better players. The worst players always seem to be the luckiest. But in actuality, it takes all kinds. Someone has to double me up early with an all-in bluff. Good players are needed to win pots from bad players and consilidate the chips in one spot for me. Whether they admit it or not, good players sometimes have a habit of playing so "by the book" that they become predictable. They get mad and call you names when you pick off their moves without stopping to consider that you may have read those books too. The best players will know how to switch it up to keep from becoming predictable. Those are the ones that will be there in the end. You need them to give you that sense of satisfaction at having actually achieved something when you win.
