Both had advantages and disadvantages.
I think tournaments are a great learning tool...  It forces your to play in situations that you dont and/or wont play in a cash games.  Playing short stack in a very loose table. Playing short stack in a tight table.  being at a table with a bunch of people that are deep stacked except you.
However a disadvantage of tournaments  is time.  You cant really quit when you want to. (unless you just blinch yourself off) as long as you have chips you have to play. not even if you become not feeling well, tired, hungry, thiristy,  visitors, a phone call, family emegency, etc.  In a cash game you can leave anytime and really dont need an excuse.
I feel you can make more money at a cash game but if you are a beginning player you can lose more money and would be cheaper to get in tournament to help you learn the game.Overall I think you need to do both to become a better poker player.. Both have advantages and disadvantages.
