I understand your question and what you are trying to say. But you are phrasing it wrong.
The question is: Should one more rely on instincts or on the possible ranges on the table? 
And the answer is: both in a balance. If you feel something is really fishy, bit you got triples, and no flush or full house is possible, call it still, they are either trying to bluff you out, orhave triples themselfs.
If you got triples, and a flush is clearly possible, but this one specific player has a value of 65 VPIP, still call it.
If you got triples, and a lot of things are possible from the flop and or turn and river, and your opponent has tight stats and raises 5 BB, maybe fold.
Your instincts are subconciously building up, I think so, for at lesst 80% from your earlier experiences as a human being and especially from your poker past. Hoe many habds of what, which behaviour and tendencies of players have you observed?
If your are REALLY feeling yourself, bluff them out with 6-T.
