Well, perhaps it wasn't always this way, but I think it has turned out that over the past ten years or so, my closest friends are also poker players.
My wife doesn't play but is very supportive, and that means a lot. She also gives good advice, if I'm not playing my game properly.
Kids are very supportive, but they always expect me to take them out for Saturday morning breakfast out of winnings following a Friday poker night...which is a bit presumptuous.
One of my kids is actually a brilliant poker player. He sat in on one of my monthly games, in person, (before the plague) and systematically knocked each of us out, one by one. But now, I can't get him to play anymore as he feels he peaked too early and now the expectations are too great. Shame. I could learn from him! (But there is time to get him back into it as he's only 14!)
Cheers,
