Certainly applicable to poker here, but I recall a psychology study from years ago indicating that whenever you lose money, it usually takes 3 or 4 times that amount lost in winnings to return to the same mentality and emotional state you had before the initial loss.

This sounds about right for poker. I feel like if someone suffers a bad beat (a single hand), then it usually takes 3 or 4 won hands to "untilt" from the situation. Obviously I am generalizing here, but this feels correct. Personally (pretty sure this is true for others as well) some hands impact me more than others; especially if I know I misplayed the hand. If a bad beat happens, then it isn't fun, but at least you are comforted in knowing your play was +EV long-term. If I mis-play the hand, then that makes it more likely for me to tilt because I know it was partly on me and nothing now can change that fact.

Don't want to give off the perception I am too hard on myself, but how I played the hand greatly impacts how much a loss will feel "good" or "bad."
