Does your emotion control skill get better and better

This question is only to thouse guys who have played poker for several years.After having experienced bat beat and small probability event (like AA lose to 27o),do you feel frustrated less and less,even just take a laugh?
Do you think that human emotion can be controled wholly?

Yes as I play more and this happens more I have become able to deal with it in a much better fashion...also helps to remember the times I have rivered others or got chips in and was behind and won...

One way that kind of helps is to think of this.

Bad beats mean the other player got the money in behind

Getting the money in behind is a sign that they are not as good as you

If you did not play against worse players than yourself, you wouldn't win long term.

Just consider a bad beat as a small concession that keep these players coming back.

Of course, good BRM helps.

I've always felt like a good poker face isn't one that you only wear when you're involved in a hand, but one that you wear the entire time you're at the table. I try not to give them anything to work with. If you look like you're about to go on tilt, someone is likely to try to give you a nudge to help you on your way. I used to have to work at it, but over time, having seen and been the victim of so many bad beats, I have become somewhat desensitized to them. So yes. I used to try to hide my frustration, but over time I've found that I don't even get frustrated anymore. It's pointless anyway. Once the hand has played out there is nothing you can do about it anyway. So don't waste the energy.

You should be able to deal better with losses with the time, but I have to say that this still is my biggest flaw (and I already play for a long time).

Sometimes ,we got frustrate in our life,and playing poker could help up controlling emotion better than before.So that is the social meaning of playing poker I think.

Yeah maybe, or it makes it worse. I am in a worse mood after a losing session but I'm emotionally immature. :banghead:
Feel good after winning so there's that.

I think emotional control might tend to improve a little as more time is spent at the game, but I'm not sure. I do think it can be improved with conscious effort. I think it's key to just make the best decisions you can at every step and work on developing an attitude of detachment toward the outcome.

One thing That I haven't heard many people talk about is how playing within one's bankroll helps with staying emotionally stable and not tilting. I think this is a big factor. If you have a proper bankroll so that you can easily afford those beats then it's so very much easier to let em' roll off your back.

I play my hands as I see them if I make the right decision and lose I just move on to the next one. If you get to emotional it will have an effect on how you play the same hand next time.

Wow, everyone on this thread must be a zen master because I still sometimes have a conniption when someone hits one of two outs to beat me. I play with emotion and that is why I'm terrible at live games. My avitar is the only poker face I need these days. Oh, and I must disable the player chat. I have a typing sailor mouth!

For me it has got better over time, I remember the first time a horrendous player caught runner runner and I lost a single buy in, I gave them some choice words in the chat and stopped playing instantly, now I would just move onto the next hand.

Recognising tilt is key, I am getting better at seeing the signs and either sitting out for a while or quitting.

I am far from a zen master. But I'm not a hypocrite, either. At least I try not to be one. That means that I have to try to remember all the times that I've told other people that you actually want people making bad calls when you're ahead. So I can't really complain too much when someone calls me with a two-outer. After all, I'm only getting what I wanted, except for the part where they get incredibly lucky.

While I try to avoid engaging in insults and arguments, as it is a very big distraction from the game, I've always been hesitant to disable chat because it could give me clues to when another player may be going on tilt. What I used to do, which I guess kind of worked as an exercise to quell the urge to insult other players, was type a comment in the chat box, then delete it.

I used to yell at my computer monitor in rage at some of the bad beats I got. But then after a while, you see enough of them to realize it's just part of the variance. The best I can possibly do is make good decisions and get my money in there when I have the advantage. After that, I'm at the mercy of the cards. Am I really going to get upset when something that has a 10% chance of happening happens 10% of the time?

I think after a certain number of hands, each hand does not feel so much like life or death. Of course, in tournament play, bad beats can be especially painful. But the numbers still come out. With proper bankroll management, of course.

Man is a being that have emotion.We cant eliminate emotion.And still cant eliminate bad emotion and reserve good emotion.Both emotion exist interdependent.If we become zen masters,then we will not play poker.Zen masters take poker as dirt.We,love to play poker,and we have emotion,all have to do is to upgrade ours emotion quality.

Every now and then bad beats still get to me, especially when they are really "bad" but aside from that i've learned how variance can be so i've gotten better at using stats/notes and just doing more reading/research as well.... instead of stressin' as much, I just deal with it.....

it is hard when you get beat by some1 who just refuses to fold and hits awful sukouts but the fact of the matter is that those are the players we survive off of and if they werent out there we would all be losers to the rake.So dad taught me to take a walk when the blood is boiling a bit and it has proven to be valuable advise. got to play happy.

Just know in the long run you will win if your playing good. If you got it in with the best hand, take that as a win, don't let short term results have long term psychological effect.

im gonna be honest with u man, I´ve been playing poker for years and let me tell you that i still getting so frustrated when they beat me with hands like 4,6 or 2,4 nd i got A K or A Q , but i learned something through all those years, when that happens the best thing that you can do its take a break and just relax for a second and then come back to the game because if you still playing in a bad mood you´re gonna make bad decisions nd probably ur gonna lose all ur money... believe me lol

I think for me it has gotten a bit better over time but I still get frustrated at times like anyone else. Having seen a lot of craziness definitely does help though. It allows you to have more perspective.
