Donk play, do you think it's disrespectful?

Obviously there are times when donking is fine, for example you flop a set on a draw heavy board with low cards in a multiway pot and you're afraid the pre-flop aggressor might check, so you can protect your hand by donking, but other times there are dry flops and other player simply donks out of nowhere before I get to make a c-bet.

I feel like playing like that is disrespectful to the other player. Your thoughts?

Seems, anything type of strategy or play is acceptable on the felts. Plilayers have to play their game, for better or worst.

Years ago, when I played live poker in private games, (1960s) it was considered unethical to check and bet. I noted that here in on line poker, it is acceptable. But, that was over 50 years ago.

the only play i consider disrespectful is slowroll, i mean people who think to much to play when they have 100% of the odds, they river the nuts (a flush ace high, a top straight or the best full) and after their villain shoves they take seconds to play,

a donk bet--well that just just a term and the definition varies per individual. bottom line is its a play whether its a good play or a bad play is to be seen by the result of the hand.

No, it's not disrespectful. It's probably most often done by inexperienced/bad players (hence the term) but there are strategic reasons to do it as well. The fact that it frustrates or tilts you is evidence enough of how effective it can be to throw someone off their game.

No, the term "donk bet" has a very specific definition. It's not just a "bad play." It's when you flat call a bet/raise on the prior street then lead out on the next.

lol pretty sad I have been playing for 6 yrs and have to ask this but, if you flat call a bet/raise, then you should check? even if you hit good?

Disrespectful is such an annoyingly overused word.

That aside, often against poor players donking is the best move. If they are stupid enough to call with dominated hands why not just donk out and bet all the streets?

Don't think its disrespectful to play a certain way. It would seem just as disrespectful to criticize someone for playing loose or making poor calls. There are ways of playing against those type of players just as there is against solid players.

When OOP against an IP aggressor, then yes that's the general expectation. If you make a habit of donking when you hit, you're going to be exploited pretty quickly and lose a lot of value on your made hands. When you hit big against an aggressor, they will often do your betting for you if you check to them, where if you donk into them you might scare them off. However like everything else in poker, it just depends on the situation and who you're up against. There are no absolutes.

What I see a lot of bad players doing is min-bet donking, I guess to try and slow down the aggressor hoping he'll just call so they can draw cheaply. I usually raise them here to something close to pot and it almost always shuts them down.

if your saying donk bet like pot or greater with nothing, that's a good thing I think you want your opponents to do that. If they donk bet and you smart bet then you will end up ahead when you both get caught.
