I will elaborate a little.  When you first begin to learn how to play, you often become tight passive players.. why because the books tell you to only play the best hands, so you tighten up.
 
You become obsessed with pot odds of drawing and not the equity value you have over an opponents range.. why.. because its one of the first topics you read about.
 
Also you probably play small stakes tournaments.. which are about hyper aggressive play as the blind structure does not really favor 'skillful play'
 
You put all of this together an you start to see why it is.. at low levels... why the beginner is at a disadvantage to the donk.
 
Of course as time passes.. the beginner will become an intermediate and maybe even an expert. He will play bigger games where people wont push with ATC out of position just for the hell of it.
 
His skill will become a factor because he will be at a table of thinking opponents rather than an endless supply of newbies who are willing to throw away a few bucks.
 
Aggression and calling with a hand which may improve are something that a beginner has to add to his arsenal .. because he is becoming a thinking player.. but these two important factors are things that  a donk has.. he probably overvalues them.. but he has them.
 
Many beginners switch fro being a donk to a nit after reading their first book.  Its the first step but there is still a long way to go.
