Games are much harder to beat now...

I recently read a post in another forum asking this question in the form of a poll.

What do you think?

Whether you agree or disagree take a look at what Phil Gordon says concerning this subject.

I just listened to Phil Gordon's audio book, "Phil Gordon's Little Green Book."(Please understand I am paraphrasing it)

He talks about sitting down to a cash game with Gus Hansen, Phil Ivey, Eric Lindren, Josh Arieh, and 3 players that were not pros. Why would he sit down there? Good fun, top level competition, the room was full and didn't care to wait for a "softer table?"

He admits that he knows that most of these guys are better players than him.

So why did he sit there?

The key he said was, He knew how to lose the fewest amount of chips to them while making his money from the 3 newcomers at the table. He went on to say most of the money won is from the 2 or 3 weakest at the table.

If you play regularly you know the regulars. The fairly solid players that profit enough so that they can become regulars!

You might want to look at making a profit in this way.

This may mean not putting as much money at risk particularly in an earlier position to the regulars.

I`m still new to poker, but...

I`ve been playing poker just over a year now.

If more people are playing I don`t think they are harder to beat - the best players will always come out on top - I think u just have to change your mindset.

What I mean is, its simple maths (not math, which is incorrect. )
If u enter a tourny with 100 people, u will have more chance of winning than if u enter a tourny with 500 people. However, because there are more people in the tourny, the prize pool is bigger.

So, the mindset thing. U will make the money fewer times the bigger the field, but when you do u will make more cash.

What I do think, but I struggle to explain this one, a good players odds of winning the pot diminishes when there are more poor players in the game. What I mean here is if u r delt AA and u r playing against good players, your raise is respected a lot of the time. U get heads up with someone that u know u will be about 5:1 fav.

However, using the same scenario with less experienced players, your raise is like a challenge to them, because "any 2 cards can win" "my 92 is sooted" and "any ace is a monster. Kicker, what???" etc. So that same raise gives u more callers, reducing your odds to 2:1 or less. Then when a flop of 922 hits, or 2 diamonds, u don`t know where u r!!!

You need to change your strategy.
