Most churches in the UK are part of the church of England, of which the Queen is supreme head and because of that, you get a top down hierarchical structure where by wages etc are set at a national level. We dont get things like the mega churches in the UK they are more of a US phenomena. We dont have a constitutional right to religions freedom as in the US.. which means people cant just start up fly-by-night churches in shop fronts etc. Its probably the reason Scientology has such a hard time getting a foothold in most European nations.
