Harrington on Holdem

If you have read the volumes on Tourny play then you really can't complain about 70 dollars now. Those are the only ones I have read that actually explain something other than play top 10% hands in position and fold the rest. If reading and improving your game won't make you 70 dollars in the next year you are'nt playing poker for real. Education costs money at the table and off the table. It's much cheaper off the table. Not being an a-s-s- but it is true.................

Well I definately am, but does anyone think the prices are a bit high? I guess I'm just spoiled because our library carries a lot of poker books, but $70+ for 2 books seems a bit much.

Save up your Full Tilt points. You'll only prolly need about 16 kazillion.

Well if you simply buy them outright, then yeah you'll pay a lot more for them. But Amazon gives 5% off for pre-order. If the Amazon offered price comes down (like it does 99% of the time) then you get the discounted price AND the 5% pre-order discount. And you get free shipping from them. So instead of easily spending $75 or more with shipping charges, you can get them (like I am) for no more than $66.40. And if they cut the price even just 10% off the top, it'll just cost me $59.76. And for Harrington books, that money is well spent.

put it this way zach. if the books improve your winrate by 1bb/100 and you play $50 NL then it would take roughly 15k hands for them to pay for themselves and then you would be arning extra bb in profit every 100 hands you play. So over the long run if they improve your game they will theoretically pay for themselves so its like they are free! well sort of.

OK I'm convinced. Since it looks like I'll be hitting $1k ahead of schedule, I'll just wait until I'm at $1,070 and withdraw the $70 for the HoH cash game books.

Super System was once considered the Bible of Poker. I dare to redefine it as the Old Testament of Poker.
Harrington of Hold'em is the New Testament of Hold'em Tournament Poker, and now Hold'em Cash Game Poker as well.

According to the 2+2 store linked somewhere in this thread I think, the books are in stock. Anyone get them yet? I'm probably going to get them in a week or so when it'll go on next month's credit card bill. If you read the bank thread I'm literally out of cash outside of the CD at the bank and pokerstars. I have like $4k between the 2, but the CD doesn't mature for another 3 and a half weeks, while I'm not sure how long a check will take to get from pokerstars. So anyone order or get them yet?

What if Jesus Christ wrote a poker book? Who would that make Harrington?

Well it certainly is long enough to be able to cover both and do them justice. Not sure if they do though. Anyone have it/order it yet?

They are FR books and mine are still on backorder from amazon (why didn't I just pay the extra buck or 2 from 2+2?).

They're actually cheaper at 2+2, 60 (59.something) compared to 70. Not sure of the shipping prices though, and standard shipping from 2+2 says like 6 to 60 days or something ridiculous like that.

With the pre-order discount and free shipping at amazon they were $66.40. I think the 2+2 store with shipping is like $68.95 or something. BTW, at Buy.com they are $23.69 each and they ship free if you order $50 and up. They too show no stock and give no estimate, but when you're ready to order Zach that might be the place to look 1st.

Barnes and Noble is out of stock as well (ships 1-2 weeks as of now) but they're giving a huge discount too.

I pre ordered both books from amazon.ca and it only cost $45.10 since shipping was free. $66.40 seems somewhat high...

Oh and it says the expected delivery date is between April 4th and 9th for mine.

So after looking at both amazon.com and amazon.ca I found that there is a pretty huge price difference. I don't know why they would do that but take a look.

Exchange rate would be my guess. $21.48 CDN probably = $34.95 USD

The exchange rate isn't even close to that bad, they are actually almost even. So that's not it.

I had them pre-ordered on Amazon ready for the March 7 release date (a birthday present to myself). Got an email from Amazon on that day saying expected delivery is now at the end of March.

So I picked a couple of aliengenius recommendations and am currently reading them while I wait.
