I just installed Service Pack 3 on my computer and after rebooting went to open HEM and got this message.

"The following error occurred when trying to open the database: Failed to establish a connection to "127.0.0.1""

So, I clicked "okay" and the PostgreSQL connection manager opens up. I click on "connect" and then it gives me a pop up saying...

"A connection to PostgreSQL could not be made. Would you like to have Holdem Manager attempt to start the service?"

I click "Yeah, whatever" and another popup telling me that "Holdem Manager has started the service. Please try again".

So I do, and then it starts the vicious circle all over again!

What do I need to do here? Uninstall HEM and reinstall?

Whenever I get this i just keep clicking Okay or Next or whatever until eventually it says "Postgre has started the service" and then it says "Start Holdem Manager" on the bottom right side somewhere.

Okay, exactly how do you do this. This might be the problem.

Well the fact that the error indicated that there is a problem connecting to 127.0.0.1 indicates a virtual network error.

Certainly try restarting the postgresql

BTW I have PT3 not HEM but it should still be the same
start -> programs -> postgresql -> stop service

thean again but -> start service

Okay, tried this and that didn't work. Can I delete it and reinstall it? Is it hard to do and are there any problems that I need to watch out for?

Ugh, where did you find that, stu? I looked and even typed the dam thing in the search box!

Okay, well I'll try that and then if that doesn't work I'll just do a system restore and try to upgrade to SP3 later. Thanks.

Well, I tried that and I'm still not having any luck. I've got one more crack at something and then it's bye bye SP3!
