For the people calling the OP's friend stupid. You have to understand that most fish aren't as into the game as you and that you were probably once like them in your thinking. Maybe not to the extent of OP's friend, but you've probably once believed some crazy stuff about strategy.

I remember there was a time when I didn't know much at all. I developed a strategy where I only played Ax hands preflop. In my mind I thought "hey aces hit the highest card on the board more often. Therefore I'm more likely to win." I barely understood the game at all at that point, but now I am fairly decent and have a considerable edge in most of the games I play. Looking back it seems crazy that I once played like that, but everyone sucks when they start out.

Fish aren't necessarily stupid, they just sometimes lack experience.
